Running the data & analytics department is like drinking from a fire hose — every day, a flood of requests for dashboards and insights rolls in.
💡 Here’s my process for tackling this challenge head-on:
1️⃣ Team Division:
I split our team into two groups. One focuses on mid to long-term projects, ensuring strategic goals are met without interruption. The other handles daily requests, quickly managing urgent tasks without backlogs.
2️⃣ Business Analyst Involvement:
Engaging a Business Analyst to partner with business owners in crafting detailed, professionally written requirements. This ensures clarity and precision in what's needed, allowing our team to deliver exactly what the user wants — faster and more efficiently.
3️⃣ Prioritization:
Not every request needs a "yes." We evaluate the importance and necessity of each dashboard request. This allows us to prioritize those that truly add value and support strategic business objectives.
By employing these strategic steps, we streamline our workflow, maintain focus on crucial tasks, and prevent our team from burnout.
For those in similar roles: How do you handle an overwhelming influx of requests? I'd love to hear your strategies!
